NEW LIBRARY IN KITSAMBIRO

We supplied over 1000 books for the creation of a small community library in Kitsambiro, a village in Lubero territory. The library is run by Uhuru Knowledge Center, whom we also partnered with for the creation of a library in Sake town last year.

AFRICAN AUTHORS COLLECTION

A grant from the Rotary Club of Urbana, Illinois enabled us to purchase and then provide a collection of books written by African authors to two of our partner libraries. This was a follow-up project to the grants we received in 2021 to provide these collections to 10 libraries.

NEW LIBRARY IN KINDU

We opened the first community library in the town of Kindu in collaboration with the local organization LDJH. This was the first library that we setup entirely remotely, as Kindu is only accessible by plane and we were unable to travel there ourselves. Throughout the year, we provided training and technical support via phone call, video call and by sharing lots of photos to ensure that the local organization was well supported in setting up and getting the library running. Pictured above are school children visiting the library.

BOOKS IN THE STREETS, ON THE RADIO, AND IN READERS' HANDS

We worked hard to put books into the hands of readers throughout the year. From bookmobiles to radio programs, author presentations and providing books as prizes for reading competitions, we were busy getting books into the hands of more readers this year, and inspiring more kids to read regularly as well. Check out the pictures below to see more of our work.
